derives
its
name
from
the
abundance
of
underground
and
surface
water
both
in
the
town
and
in
the
surrounding
fertile
lowlands.
However,
Fontanellato
is
often
associated
with
its
Sanctuary
as
well
as
its
stronghold,
one
of
the
most
interesting
forts
in
the
whole
region,
frescoed
by
Parmigianino.
Noteworthy
are
also
the
Church
of
Santa
Croce
of
the
15th
century,
the
Oratory
of
the
Assunta
and
the
Municipal
theatre.
